This blog is designed to be updated weekly with my experiments and experiences as I develop my ePortfolio. Rather than posting several blogs, I thought it might be more beneficial to house all of my updates in one place so I can see my own progression week by week.
Week 1: Let’s learn WordPress! I began by watching a ton of tutorials on how to even navigate WordPress since initially the number of options kind of overwhelmed me. Now, I feel like I have a better understanding of how to add different pages and components to pages, so I look forward to growing things next week.
Week 2: The foundation has been laid. Well, sort of. I established my innovation proposal page and one for my eventual literature review. This organization will probably (most definitely) change, but it’s a starting point.
Week 3: I started producing the header images for my pages. I designed them in Canva and I really like the teal, semi-transparent overlay on the pictures. I think it looks sophisticated but still personalized a little. This might be the first component of my ePortfolio that sticks.
Week 4: Ok, I FINALLY got my Innovation Proposal uploaded to my ePortfolio. Rather than establishing the individual projects as separate pages, I think I’m going to have one page per course and link all of the assignments for each course to each page. I believe that is how the final projects are submitted anyway, so better to get ahead of the curve.
Week 5: Not many changes this week. Things have been a little chaotic at home, so I haven’t been as focused on the ePortfolio. I did fiddle with my navigation panel a little and removed my name as a heading on the home page (that shouldn’t be the focus). I also made sure to enable comments on all pages so as to present as many opportunities for feedback as possible to viewers.
Week 6: Time for an overhaul! I established my official blog page, revamped my home page, began linking all of my header images on the home and course pages to the corresponding blogs, and changed the background color of some text boxes to the light gray color. I believe it breaks up the white a bit without clashing with the loud teal.
Week 7: This week, another educator told me that I seem “electric” when I talked about education, and it just stuck with me. I decided to rebrand my ePortfolio to a purple and white theme rather than teal and white and adopted the new subtitle “Electrifying Education”. I really like the new look of things; I feel like its a bold, eye-catching look that still is sleek and easy to navigate.
Week 8: Crunch time! I made sure to properly align and link all of my images to the correct pages and blog posts. In addition, I changed my headings to the beautiful violet color I’ve got all over my site. I’m feeling fairly good about how it looks and functions, I hope other viewers feel the same.
