Creating an Innovation Proposal and Establishing a Community

5305 – Week 1

Hello! My name is Madison Perez and this is my first blog post since starting my masters program at Lamar University. I am majoring in Applied Digital Learning (ADL as I will refer to it throughout the site), and am very excited to see where this journey takes me.

I am currently enrolled in EDLD 5305 and 5305, and our major assignments within these courses are to create a personal ePortfolio (hence the website you are visiting) and an Innovation Plan. As far as my Innovation Plan is concerned, I definitely hit some hurdles early with deciding upon my idea. After many discussions with coworkers and Dr. H, I landed on a College Prep ePortfolio and Support/Guidance group. I need to work on that name as well as a clearer structure for the tools I will develop, however the vision and passion is there! It is a starting point, which makes me feel slightly more confident. More on this to come!

One of the most important pieces of advice I received regarding this program, from prior students and professors alike, was to establish a community. You know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Well, I feel the same way about a graduate school student. Surrounding myself with like minded, driven people has already greatly enhanced my experience. Both my colleagues at work and within the program itself have provided me with clear communication lines and support thus far and I look forward to collaborating with all of them further to bring my ideas to life.

If you want to know more about me personally, please see my About Me page. I look forward to connecting with everyone and establishing a continuous learning space. Thanks for reading!
